Hi there

I have a DNN site upgraded from 5.02 to 5.06. One portal has a module made from an ASCX control that uses an AJAX AnimationExtender. The thing is, the module worked OK in 5.02, but in 5.06, Visual Studio gives me an error that prevents me debugging properly - by way of explanation, I have a VS solution that includes the DNN website as a project. It is the dreaded AJAX System.Web.Extensions related error:

Indirect reference is being made to assembly System.Web.Extensions version 3.5.0.0, which contains ... AnimationExtender. This project references a prior version of System.Web.Extensions version 1.0.6105.0. To use AnimationExtender, you must replace the reference to System.Web.Extensions with version 3.5.0.0

Sure enough, the AnimationExtender is no longer rendered in the DNN module in question.

What could be different in DNN 5.06? Is it something to do with a version of AjaxControlToolkit versioning? Where would DNN be hiding this troublesome reference to version 1.0.6105.0? How can I go about tracing the cause of this error? I've never really got to grips with exactly how DNN handles Ajax, it all seems quite untidy to me, so what is the best approach to troubleshooting this problem? I have all the required binding redirections set up in web.config, but still no solution!

Thanks for your help

I would start by looking at your web.config and bin folder for duplicate references. my personal opinion here: the ajaxcontroltoolkit is nothing but trouble
