I just upgraded my site from 5.6 to 5.6.1.  The first thing I did was test the upgrade on my local installation.  There were no errors.  Emboldened by that, I installed the upgrade on the hosted installation and that's where things went wrong.

At least this time my site still works.  However, there were some errors during the install.  The telerik stuff failed to install as did the new core sitemap provider.  I'm certain this is going to cause some grief later on when a new DNN version comes out.  What should I do to fix the issue?  It seems that EVERY time I upgrade the production installation there's a problem with the Telerik stuff.

A good thing is that whatever happened from 5.5.1 to 5.6 that broke my HTML validation got fixed.  It now validates for HTML.  However, CSS stopped validating.  Around about line 81 of default.css is a section with the comment header /* Generic */ that sets some font properties.  The css validator complained about those tags having # values.  What's up with that?  In addition to that, it messed up the layout on my blog page causing the calendar control to run past the edge of the container and get chopped off.  I fixed both of those issues by restoring the old 5.6 default.css file.

I also applied the 5.6.1 upgrade to my 5.6.0 installation on my test server.  No problems with Telerik control, but did have an error with the site map provider:

Installing Package File CoreSitemapProvider_5.6.0.0_Install: Error!

Everything else was successful.

I cannot find any errors in the Event log.  Is there someplace else to look for installation errors?

I compared my backup  of the web.config from before the upgrade to the web.config after the upgrade.
OLD:  <add name="SitemapHandler" path="Sitemap.aspx" verb="*" type="DotNetNuke.Services.Sitemap.SitemapHandler, DotNetNuke" preCondition="integratedMode,runtimeVersionv4.0" />

NEW: <add name="SitemapHandler" path="Sitemap.aspx" verb="*" type="DotNetNuke.Services.Sitemap.SitemapHandler, DotNetNuke" preCondition="integratedMode" />

My site is running under version 4 of the DotNetNuke framework.  So I figure this is the problem.  Does something need to be fixed in the installation before I apply this upgrade to production?

A little additional info.  I'm NOT running under 4.0 framework.

I also tried to urgrade my sites ... all three running 5.6. The upgrade went well with first one, but the other two got messed up - although I had followed same procedures. Now planning to restore the backups. I wonder if it can stil be sorted out and I don't have to restore from the backup. I'll wait for some responses here.

One strange thing ... one site 2, I encountered error installing Telerik ... on site 3, nothing happened after www.mydomain.com/instal/install.aspx?mode=install/ upgrade (I tried both, neither worked). Now if I log on the 3 sites, all show the upgraded versions (Host --> Extensions), but the latter two have serious problems with display ... the websites' main menu doesn't show up.

Ah!

Hi, all.

Actually, all the site were live sites ... so I couldn't wait. Instead, I did a 'trick' to upgrade.

I just downloaded the Installation file of 5.6.1 and overwritten all files on my site (I had backed up my web.config which I restored before running the upgrade command). Then ran the upgrade, I received error installing one module which I had manually added to my site before. I repaired it from Host --> Extenisons and site is fine now.

No errors and everything looks good.
