Another major problem with the 5.6.1 upgrade is that no one is able to download any PDF files any more.
Both Linkclick and absolute links to documents cause a 404 error.

With this bug adding to the others already found in 5.6.1 I've had no choice today but to roll all portals back 3 days. What a nightmare.

I haven't put this in Gemini yet as I can't really say much about it yet. Perhaps others are experiencing the same?

At a guess this will be related to the URL rewriter errors already document.
There are known issues and some work arounds that include moving the location of the files to folders in the DesktopModules path.

Thanks for the reply,

These are hundreds of user files that exist in many folders throughout the 60 portals on the instance. There's no moving them.

I'm still using basic DNN friendly URLs, and not the DNN Humanfriendly, nor Infinity's URLs as these haven't been reliable enough.

Something has changed in 5.6.1 that causes files to no longer be accessible.

When I click to view/download a file from a portal page using a browser on my server desktop, the resulting DNN error page reports "404 - Domain name not in database"

That might point the finger at the domain issue that has been a problem since 5.6.0 whereby portals can't be browsed from root domains. That did happen to me with 5.6.0 but was fine in 5.6.1 - apart from this possibly related issue.

Because of that clue, I tried disabling the neatupload provider as suggested elsewhere but that didn't fix it.

No errors are logged

That's about everything I have on the issue.

scratch this - I've just discovered that 5.5.1 is doing the same thing after rolling back.
I'll report back when I've found out why

ok it appears that files accessed via LinkClicks are no longer working for anonymous visitors. They do however work when I'm signed in.

Files accessed by absolute URLs work for both athenticated an anonymous in 5.5.1 here, but they most definitely did not work on 5.6.1

DNN and file system permissions are double checked and I've been throgh my web.config to ensure the linkclickhandler has only got preCondition="integratedMode" and nothing else, which I understand is how it needs to be.

I'll keep investigating
