Hi,
I need to upgrade my dnn application version 4.9 to 5.6.2.
I tried it with following steps
1.BackUp website and database.
2.Download Install package of 5.6.2 version.
3.Extract the install packege website to current website.
4.Change the connection string of website.
4.Set AutoUpgrade to False in web.config.
5.F5 application.
6.Open http://localhost/website/Install/Install.aspx?mode=upgrade
Upgrade starts with process of upgrade database.
But I got so many failed message in upgrade process, some stored procedure missing.
and finally when I click on Access to site, it gives error
"Violation of UNIQUE KEY constraint 'IX_PortalAlias'. Cannot insert duplicate key in object 'dbo.PortalAlias'. The statement has been terminated."

Can you please help me how to upgrade ftom 4.9.2 to 5.6.2.What is the best way to upgrade.
Thanks.

I would avoid trying to do 4.9 to 5.6.2 in one jump.
There were a lot of changes at 4.4 that are best handled before you jump to 5.6.x

After 4.4 jump to 5.5.x  then 5.6x

from my experience, the most stable upgrade path is 4.9.5 > 5.2.3 > 5.4.4 > 5.5.1 > 5.6.x

Hi Sebastian,
The DNN version of my website is 4.9.4. I had trouble upgrading it, so I posted a question here. As you can see there, I faced problems with this upgrade path: 4.9.4 > 4.9.5 > 5.4.4 > 5.6.2.
After searching more, I found this post, where you suggest the path 4.9.5 > 5.2.3 > 5.4.4 > 5.5.1 > 5.6.x. So again, I upgraded from 4.9.4 to 4.9.5 without problems. When I go from 4.9.5 to 5.2.3, I see the same error again (Executing Script: 05.01.00.SqlDataProvider [Column names in each table must be unique. Column name 'LastModifiedOnDate' in table 'dbo.Files' is specified more than once.]). It seems that this script is always throwing an error for me. What can be done to avoid the error? Please help.

Sebastian,

Long time, no see.

Thanks for all the work you do with being well known, accessible and still finding the time to respond to users, new and old.

This was exactly what I was looking for, someone had responded to a forum question with this some time ago and I lost track of it.

Best,

Mike Durthaler
