Hi folks

I have been using the DNN FormatEmail function to display emails, for example:

<asp:Label ID="lblUserEmail" Text='<%# DotNetNuke.Common.Utilities.HtmlUtils.FormatEmail(DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem,"Email")) %>' runat=server CssClass="Normal" />

Because I thought it was somehow more secure than, say

<a href="Mailto:<%# Eval("email") %>"><%#Eval("email")%></a>

But in DNN 6.0 FormatEmail returns nothing (though the simple Mailto code works fine).

Is this a bug, has FormatEmail been moved, is FormatEmail deprecated in 6.0 or is this somehow related to the move to C#?

If so, what is now the recommended way to display email addresses with mailto links in DotNetNuke?

Kind regards

Geoffrey Morton-Haworth www.yalaworld.net

it should still be there as it's part of the public API and we preserve binary compatibility -that would suggest its a bug so please log it at support.dotnetnuke.com

Hi Cathal

I've reported the bug. Meanwhile, I'm going with a hyperlink as a workaround that opens a new window for the email client, like this...

<asp:HyperLink ID="hypEmail" runat="server"
                                CssClass="Normal"
                                Text = '<%# DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "Email")%>'
                                NavigateUrl='<%# DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "Email","mailto:{0}") %>'
                                Target="_blank">
                                </asp:HyperLink>

Kind regards

Geoffrey, I can't recreate this (i just added a test < response.Write(DotNetNuke.Common.Utilities.HtmlUtils.FormatEmail("testl@test.com"))>to my skin), so I'm going to have to withdraw -im not sure what is wrong but without reproduction steps ill have to withdraw it - if you can show a repro that we can do please reopen it

Hi Cathal

That's strange. I'll delve a little deeper and let you know.

Regards

Geoffrey
