We are at 4.9.5 and wanting to upgrade to 6.x
The only problem is, we cannot find 5.x to start the upgrade process.  where can we find the old software?

If you go to http://dotnetnuke.codeplex.com and then click on the "Downloads" menu item. On the right you will see "Other Downloads" you can scroll in this box to get to the previous releases.

Thank you very much.  My next question is, just how much of a pain is it going from 4.9 to 6.x?

It should go pretty smoothly - just be sure to have backups in place.  Even better if you can test on a demo install (locally or a copy on your server).

It really only becomes a pain when you don't have backups!! ;)

I strongly suggest upgrading from 4.9.x to 6 in multiple steps, and suggest taking 4.2.3, 4.4.0, 4.5.1 and 4.6.3, before reaching 6.0.2 or 6.1.1, when available.
