Dear DNN Community

I hope you're all doing great.

I was using dnn 4.0.9, on that installation, I added modules, tested some codes, removing others, there were some problems with some 3rd party modules, while upgrading I got some errors and exception , although the upgrade was a bit successful in most cases.

currently there are some errors in the production site which I can't resolve.

anyway

I decided to creating new fresh installation 6.1.1 and move the contents there, this can be achieved through template wizard, but it's not as expected to move all portals with their page and their modules and their contents, and If create a template using 4.0.9 and execute it in 6.1.1 the format of template might not be accepted or may lack something.

my question is that

Is there any tool or sql script moves the contents from one installation to another taking into account version differences.

In which in the destination database it must create the same portalID pagesID and Modules inside those pages as they were in the previous database, the remaining thing is files which directly be copied and pasted in the destination.

 ALL REGARDS

Hello, not that I am aware of -the Enterprise (paid) edition of DotNetNuke has a content staging tool which can do some of this e.g. users/roles/skins/html , but not all of it. As for portal templates they will typically work fine, however a template is a creation of NEW content and not a merge of existing, so pageid's will change (however if you use friendlyurl then as it uses pagenames this will be fine). You can of course redirect page's to other pages via SiteUrls.config or via a 3rd party product such as urlmaster.

Export and Import (or portal templates) usually work only for same DNN and module versions on source and target web site. if you are on the same SQL Server, you might be able to transfer some module contents from one database to another, but many IDs will be different and this is a hard job. depending on the amount of content, copy paste per entry might be the easiest at all and transferring users using one of the modules available on snowcovered.com, if you have a larger user base.

Thank you very much Mr. cathal and Mr. Sebastian
I think the best way is to deeply study both DNN's database tables(authentication, content tables) taking into account the differences and create a complex sql script to move all data and insure their integrity.
We have also third party module Articles and Categories (from Efficion Consulting) which work very fine in dnn 4.x, 5.x but not in 6.x there are some Module Load exceptions occur, there might be some error in integrations with dnn APIs of the version 6.
We at Yemen.gov.ye are currently using community edition 5.x and some third party modules for the government portals.
the gov decided to buy professional edition + support for government portal.

Thanks in advance

I would always recommend against working with the database directly as you may transfer partial data and break referential integrity, but i understand that sometimes folks need to do so (and it's safer against 3rd party module tables rather than core tables) - this post in the exchange links to new database schema diagrams and should be helpful-http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Community-Exchange/view/question/id/269.aspx
