Dear Group,

I'm still in the very hesitant stages of attempting to upgrade DNN from 4.8.4 to the most recent version using the recommended upgrade path.

One variance I made from the upgrade path was to upgrade my SQL Server account at NewTech from 2000 to 2008 before I attempted to upgrade from 4.8.4 to 4.9.2. I upgraded to 4.9.2 but encountered problems.

For reasons I detailed elsewhere, I restored my site back to 4.8.4; however, I did not restore the database. 4.8.4 works as before except that in all of my blogs, the CAPTCHA graphic no longer displays properly. For any user that does not have a login, the CAPTCHA graphic under "Security Code" simply shows a red X for a missing image.

I've tried un-checking the "Use CAPTCHA for comments" setting on the "Edit Blog" settings page and then checking it again, but the CAPTCHA image still shows a red X.

Any ideas?

Regards,

please note, that database version and file version needs to be in sync. If you upgrade your database, you need to use associated core files as well. I suggest upgrading to 4.9.5, which should not result in issues.

Sebastian,

I'm sorry, I mis-typed when I wrote that I'd tried the upgrade to 4.9.2. I actually followed the recommended upgrade path laid out in the DotNetNuke Wiki to 4.9.5. I had various issues that prevented my sites from working properly (which I've written about elsewhere)...so I reverted back to 4.8.4.

The CAPTCHA issue is puzzling, though. I made a full backup of my site BEFORE attempting the upgrade. CAPTCHA worked on my blog pages in 4.8.4. But when I reverted back to 4.8.4, the CAPTCHA image just shows the red X under the caption "Security Code" and above the caption "Enter the code shown above in the box below" and the text box where the user types in the letters he sees.

I used Google Chrome's Developer Tools to see what the img src is:

<img src="/DesktopModules/Blog/ImageChallenge.captcha.aspx?captcha=A917...

That file, "ImageChallenge.captcha.aspx" is not found in the DesktopModules/Blog folder for version 4.8.4. Could you tell me what that is?
