I have inherited a job position where I am in charge of upgrading all our clients DNN sites (40 plus). I been reading a lot about upgrading DNN. I have read and understand the upgrade chart. I am wondering what the ramifications are of upgrading to 4.6.2 manually and then jumping straight to current version? This should make the changes to the web.config that are manually required, and then use the built in system when I upgrade to 6.

One caveat of course will be sites with custom modules on them. I will do those separately in test environment first to see what upgrades for modules are required.

TLDR: What are the ramifications of skipping versions in the version upgrade path?

The biggest ramification is the upgrade not working correctly and having to recover from a backup (the databases and files).
I think the main issue is how long it might take some of the scripts to run. This could cause the SQL scripts and ASPX files to timeout.
