After upgrading to DNN 7.0.3 I am unable to login to site using host, admin, or normal user account. All attempts simply display "A critical error has occurred. An unexpected error has occurred". I have a test environment on the same server (different root folder, different domain name) and this problem did not come up during the upgrade.  Both sites were at DNN 6.0.5 before the upgrade, and the one site that worked does not show any errors in the upgrade logs.  Any help is appreciated.

quite a few reports of this on the web with 7.0.3

I have the problem on two upgrades.    Time to look into this...   google and see many people reporting problems.

I have pulled up the version records from sql database and I now believe that the previous version was 6.2.3 before the upgrade.  These are version records showing the CreatedDate progressed from 6.2.3 to 7.0.3 all on 2/27 after which I could not log in.

I have finally found a resolution to the issue reported. By using a file compare tool on the files in the BIN folder of a site that upgraded okay and the site where the problem happened I was able to identify 13 dll files that somehow escaped the upgrade process. These are the 13 files that were affected on my site:

  • DotNetNuke.Authentication.Facebook.dll
  • DotNetNuke.Authentication.Google.dll
  • DotNetNuke.Authentication.LiveConnect.dll
  • DotNetNuke.Authentication.Twitter.dll
  • DotNetNuke.DNNTreeNavigationProvider.dll
  • DotNetNuke.HttpModules.pdb
  • DotNetNuke.HttpModules.xml
  • DotNetNuke.Membership.DataProvider.dll
  • DotNetNuke.Modules.Events.ScheduleControl.dll
  • DotNetNuke.Modules.Events.dll
  • DotNetNuke.Modules.Gallery.dll
  • DotNetNuke.Modules.Reports.dll
  • DotNetNuke.Provider.AspNetProvider.dll
  • DotNetNuke.Provider.CorePermissionProvider.dll
  • DotNetNuke.Provider.DBLoggingProvider.dll
  • DotNetNuke.Provider.DNNProvider.dll
  • DotNetNuke.SitemapProviders.CoreSitemapProvider.dll
  • DotNetNuke.SolpartMenuNavigationProvider.dl

Once I copied the "good" files over from my good site to the broken site, I was able to login using both superuser account and normal user. Hope this helps some of the others that have been seeing this problem.
