I am currently in the process of migrating my DNN platform from a Windows 2003 server running MSSQL2005 to a Windows 2012 server running MSSQL2012. I have successfully migrated the physical files. I now need to migrate the database and it is here that I have run into a small snag.

I thought I would be able to Restore the new DB from a backup made from the old DB. This did not work.

So if anyone can steer me into the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.

The message I get when  I attempt to do the restore is "the backup set holds a backup of a database other than the existing database"

Looks like I may have solved this by checking the "Restore files to folders" option.

Restore completed successfully. However, when I try to bring up the site I get a 500 Internal Server Error with two error messages:

1) Invalid Database

2) SQL Login Failed

I corrected this by remapping the Login for the Database after the restore.
