I recently upgraded my site from 7.2.0 to 7.2.1 and have a problem with how the menu works in IE after the upgrade.

I use a skin from Mandeeps called Dixit that have worked fine in my 7.2.0 installation. My site is run internally as an intranet site, and is not reachable from the outside Internet. I myself use Chrome but most of my users are using IE, version 9 and upwards.

So, when being on 7.2.0 the menu from Dixit looks as it should, here is a screenshot from my test-environment:

Menu before 7.2.1

But after the upgrade the menu looks crazy, it's vertical instead of horizontal among other nasty behavior:

Menu after 7.2.1

This does not happen with Chrome, the Dixit menu still looks as it should. And actually, in Internet Explorer I can make the menu look correct by going in IE to TOOLS -> COMPATIBILITY VIEW SETTINGS and un-tick the "Display intranet sites in Compability View"

But exactly this is my problem: My users all have IE because of company policy and also need to have the "Display intranet sites in Compability View" setting checked because of other legacy websites.

If I rollback to 7.2.0 it works again, but that is hardly a solution, I don't wanna be stuck on that version for ever :-)

Would any of you have any advice to what I can do to have the menu working in 7.2.1?

Thanks!

I think you are asking the wrong people.

What do Mandeeps say about it?

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I made a ticket to them tonight, I was just curious if anyone had a tip for some setting to change somewhere in DNN itself that could fix this. I will post here if Mandeeps reply with a solution.

I got a solution from the excellent support at Mandeeps.

I thought I share it here if anyone would ever experience something similar:

"Can you please add the below meta data in Default.aspx (SiteRoot/Default.aspx) and see if it works.

Thanks"

BY adding that line to my Default.aspx the problem disappeared so I am very happy with that workaround. Now I just have to remember adding that line every time I upgrade DNN, because I guess that file is commonly overwritten when upgrading...

You might want to be cautious with that meta tag.  While it is a quick fix for the constantly ongoing abuse and negligence IE forces upon the world, if you rely on it you may find yourself with bigger problems later in the future.   It should only be used as a temporary fix to buy you some time to fix the skin making it compatible with IE.  What if IE 12 creates another issue for your skin and you need to bump up the version in the meta tag but that breaks the IE8 users?  Now you have to tell people your site is either not compatible with IE12 or that people with IE8 must upgrade to use your site.

Instead of using the meta tag going forward, check with Mandeeps every once in a while until he provides the updated skin and then install the update once its ready.

Its just a suggestion that might save you some time in the future.  Some people live by those meta tags to solve IE issues and many others have found themselves with crippled projects because of them.
