Hello all!

I want to upgrade site (you can check site on http://www.ozs.si) from DNN version 5 (5.6 I think) to the latest version (7.3). I was reading documentation and found out that the recommended way is through version 06.02.08 and then to 07.03.01

Site uses NavXp and CrossArticle modules. CrossArticle should be compatible with 7.2 (I hope that also with 7.3), NavXp requirements are DotNetNuke 7 (any experiences with compatibility on 7.3)? Should I use DDRMenu instead of NavXp? We also have some custom modules - I understand that we will have to check all modules one by one and probably some corrections on code will be required.

I plan to perform full upgrade on a copy of production, and then on production server. We are using PRO version of DNN.

How many hours (days, weeks) by your experiences should the upgrade take (need to plan budget)?

Many thanks and best wishes,
Rok

Hi Rok,
estimating time for an upgrade from DNN 5 to 7 is very difficult, if 3rd party and custom modules are involved.
I would start with a review of your files and the database, make sure, cache folder is cleared and eventlog and schedule history don't have thousands of rows.
After cloning your site, the first attempt should not take more than 2-3 hours to apply the upgrades as suggested (for large sites I would upgrade in smaller steps via 6.1.5, 6.2.9, 7.1.2 to 7.3.1). Prior to each step check for .zip and .resources files in /install subfolders and remove, after each step, check /bin and /bin/providers for obviously obsolete old files.
Be aware, that prior to the upgrade to DNN 7, you'll have to switch to .Net 4.

Cheers from Germany,
Sebastian Leupold
