I want to use the Custom Registration Form in DNN but am getting an error when I try to enter text into the Registration Fields control (this is on Admin..Site Settings..User Account Settings..Registration Settings).
When I enter text the message underneath always says Searching.. and I cannot actually save anything.  I notice that this page calls  .../DesktopModules/InternalServices/API/ProfileService.ashx/Search?q=username  which returns a Resource cannot be found error when I visit that page.
I looked at the logs in Dnn and it has this message:
[FATAL] DotNetNuke.Web.Common.Internal.DotNetNukeHttpApplication - System.Web.HttpException (0x80004005): The file '/DesktopModules/InternalServices/API/ProfileService.ashx' does not exist.

This site is currently on 6.2.7 of DNN but started life way back as a DNN4 site that I've upgraded over the years.  I guess I'm missing something but cant figure out what.

I've tried:

setting runAllManagedModulesForAllRequests="false"  in web.config
using different versions of Newtonsoft.Json.dll
as suggested in similar issues but nothing changes it.
I don't think the server is the issue as I have another site (different version of DNN though) that works fine

Any ideas?

not sure what it might be - as you probably know we briefly (in 6.2.0-6.2.9) had an MVC based service framework, so I'd recommend checking that System.Web.Mvc.dll exists in the bin folder. If that's not the issue I'm not sure what the problem might be as either all the services should exist, or none - you can likely resolve this by upgrading to a 7.x release as the service framework was rewritten to use WebAPI
