Hello All,

I've searched high and low, and tried many things myself, to try to get my install to work but am stymied and hoping you can help.  I suspect it's one simple fix, but I can't seem to locate it myself.

I'm upgrading from 7.02.00 to 7.03.04 (latest) and my upgraded site completely loses all structure and functionality, i.e. all CSS formatting is gone and the site content (including admin and host structure sub menus) is unusable with non-functioning links.  So, I can't even do things like changing the skin or working on the CSS editor.

I've tried the following:

1) I backup web.config so that I can update the connection strings and machinekey to be able to access the site database when upgrading (found this out after first failed attempt when host password didn't work).

2) I backup and copy over the portal _default CSS and Portal 2 (host) CSS documents.

3) I also make sure to update the skin (I am using CleanWeb skin 3.5.1).

The upgrade appears to go on without incident according to the logs, and the site launches but the formatting is completely haywire.  I've tried clearing caches, restarting the site in IIS, recycling the application pool, etc.

I'm running this on a virtualized server, so I can try anything and revert back to previous states, so I am open to suggestions without fear of doing damage.  Any help you can offer would be appreciated.  Thanks.

which .Net version are you using for your IIS App Pool, should be .Net 4 in integrated mode

Hello Sebastian,

I confirm that I am using .NET framework V4.0 in Integrated mode for the Application Pool, yes.

Sebastian,

I'm not certain what happened differently the third time now, but I started over (rolling back the virtual machine) and went through each step again in the upgrade and now the site CSS is correct.  I cannot explain it, and nothing in the upgrade log from either attempt indicated that there were any failed component upgrades.

So, you can disregard this thread.  Thank you for your time.

Ummm ... how exactly are you trying to "UPGRADE" the site?

From what you are saying - it sounds like you are going about the processing all wrong.

There should be no need to backup web.configs or make copies of css or any other elements.

1. MAKE A FULL COPY OF YOUR SITE - FILES and DATABASE.
2. GET THIS RUNNING on your virtual server - make sure it all works as expected
3. download the latest Update.zip from DNN downloads - unblock and unzip the contents to somewhere safe.
4. copy the entire contents of the unziped files OVER the files on your running version on the virtual server.
5. open http://“YourTestSiteDomin”/install/install?mode=upgrade

upgrade will run with EXISTING settings it wont overwrite web.config or change passwords etc.

Westa
