Hi,

I am trying to upgrade DNN Version 5.1.4 to 7.x  and upgraded till version 5.6.8 successfully. when I tried to upgrade to next version 6.2.9 (as per wiki suggested upgrade path), received some module related error. So I decided to restore the version back to 5.6.8

When I restored all website files and database back to 5.6.8 and try to access the website, I am getting following error

Parser Error Message: '.', hexadecimal value 0x00, is an invalid character. Line 323, position 1.

Source file : /App_Brosers/Net4Patch.browser    Line :323

Pleas help me to fix this issue,

did you make sure during restore, you didn't left any DNN 6/7 specific files?
Did you switch your IIS app pool to .Net 4 prior to the upgrade to DNN 5.6.8 or afterwards?
You may try upgrading to 5.6.9, in order to switch to .Net 4

Yes All the files were restored back (by removing the website folder and all its content). Also IIS App pool was switched to .Net 4 when upgrading to DNN 5.6.8.

Please advise if I can go directly from version 5.1.4 to 7.x

Thank you
NP

You should upgrade in multiple steps via 5.2.3, 5.4.4 and 5.6.8 first, next 6.1.5 and 6.2.2, finally 7.1.2 and 7.3.4.
Around DNN 6, you also need to switch IIS app pool from ASP.net 2 to ASP.Net 4 (I prefer to do it manually by loading web.config in Host > Configuration Editor, running the .Net 4 merge script from /install/script folder.
