With all of the core modules removed from DNN 8 how is anybody that's not a DNN developer supposed to upgrade? My site uses all the core modules that were removed from the FAQ, Feedback, Iframe, Events, Form and List. I see the list of links on the download page to get these modules as third party modules but they are not install packages. The downloads for these modules are all raw code files which is great if you're a DNN developer. How do I go about upgrading these modules to work with DNN 8 ? Is there instructions somewhere to explain how to install these third party modules to fix the breaks ?

Any help is much appreciated, Thanks!

Muddeatr,

The links are all to the Github projects, and obviously there are no install packages released yet. Therfore the most current releases should be found on the old CodePlex project pages:

But the important sentence is this: Third Party Modules (formerly core modules that shipped with the Platform) known to break on this upgrade and require new versions to be installed. That means you should not update DNN to version 8 until there are newer versions of these modules available (which will not last too long, I guess).

The upgrade then is quite easy: Before starting the DNN upgrade process (and after you copied the new files over the old ones), copy the installation packages to the /install/modules folder. This will upgrade the modules as well.

Take care! Always try the upgrade in a testing environment first, using a an installation that you restored from a backup of your original site.

Happy DNNing!

Thanks Michael, that's the information I was looking for. I am doing this on a test system that is easily replaced so that's no big deal. Just finding all of the pieces and putting them back together for the next update was my concern.

Thanks Again!!

Note: these modules were ripped off the distribution packages of DNN Platform in version 5.5 (DNN Evoq still ships with a couple of it).
DNN 8 got reduced by a number of Admin modules: SiteLog, Newsletter, Vendors and Banners. If you use any of it, you'll need to search for it on GItHub and re-install after the upgrade; be aware that they haven't been tested extensively.
