Hi,

We have website developed in DotNetNuke 4.9 version and we would like to upgrade it to latest version 8.0. I checked the version history and release notes. However there are no release notes available to prior version 7.0. Can you please provide suggestions and road map for the upgrade?

Unfortunately, there are no general steps to consistently upgrade from a version that old. In some cases, the upgrade could be very straightforward and uneventful. In other cases, the process could be time-consuming and full of issues. It really needs to be a process where there are specific upgrade steps, followed by thorough testing, then upgrading again. This process would continue until the upgraded version reaches the intended version.

I upgraded a number of sites from DNN 4 to DNN 7 and 8, i.e. it is possible, but requires some attention. You should follow the suggested upgrade path and make sure, to uninstall any extension not needed and upgrade any 3rd party module (including previous core modules) to appropriate versions for each step. You also need to take care, to use proper .Net version (ASP.Net version in IIS App Pool).
