Mind you, this is likely to be somewhat more complicated that most upgrades. This is particularly true if you have custom modules or skins.

First make an inventory of all of your modules and skins, and check with developers to see if there are required upgrades. You probably can't install upgrades on your 4.x system, so see if you can figure out when they will be needed.

In the later stages, your skin probably will fail as the result of obsoleted features. The are usually easy to fix and are related to SolPart being replaced by DDN. Containers will fail as the result of changes to the way that "action buttons" are handled, but you usually only have to remove a line of two of code from each module.

Also verify that you have the right underlying software: Windows Server and SQL Server. Those probably can be done ahead of time. There is also at least one change of .NET, so see if you can do it first.

When you follow the recommended upgrade path, be sure to do testing after each upgrade -- you will have a 5.x, a 6.x, a 7.x,, an 8.x, and 9.1.1. And, be sure to solve any problems at each step, and don't forget to MAKE A BACKUP (database and files) after each step. So, if you have to go back a step, it will be easy to do.

I think it goes without saying that you want to do this away from your production environment.

Feel free to report progress or ask questions if you get stuck.

Atul,
please don't double post same question in Q&A and the forums as all these support channels for the free version of DNN are maintained by a small number of volunteers.
I already replied at http://www.dnnsoftware.com/answers/dn.... Please reply either or, if you have any further question.

Cheers from Germany,
