I have a new install of DNN 9.1.1 which runs just fine in production on  a GoDaddy server. However when I run it on my local host I cannot edit any pages. I click on the pencil and the page just flashes but does not go into edit mode. After reading many articles and trying everything suggested I have a work-around:

-- Add a new alias that includes the port number, i.e., locahost/VirtualDirectoryName:80.
-- Set Site Alias Mapping Mode to Redirect.
-- Set Auto Add Site Alias to True.
-- Reset IIS, clear the DNN cache and Restart the application from the Servers menu.

I now can edit pages, but only if I navigate to the website from my browser. But, it still doesn't work in debug mode started from Visual Studio. Since I need to write some custom modules for my website I really need to be able to debug them. Can anyone help?

Thanks so much for any help you can offer.

is your Visual Studio using local IIS or IIS Express?

It will be small comfort to tell you that it should work. It should!

As another workaround (for debugging) even if F5 won't work for you, you should be able to debug by attaching to the IIS AppPool process.

In VS. Debug, Attach to Process, check Show Processes from All Users, find w3p.exe (it may not be there if it's a while since you did anything using IIS because the worker processes go to sleep after while. Make sure it's the right one (there is one for each active AppPool) I usually identify them by the User Account IIS APPPOOL\

Once attached you can set breakpoints, step through, all the normal things.

Best wishes,
