Hi.
Just wanting some guidance around the considerations with upgrading our current DNN Intranet.

Currently we are running DNN 4.9(Free version) on Server 2003/SQL 2008. Lots of sites (2500+) with mainly DNN modules with the exception of custom ASP Search and broadcast feed.

We are looking at upgrading to DNN 9.x paid version on Server/SQL 2016 to achieve supported status (Server, DNN version, .NET/ASP and SQL). 2nd phase is cleanup.

Using the EVOQ migration tool, What initial outcome can be expected? High success with mainly style/formatting adjustments? Any videos on limitations and capabilities of the migration tool?

Thanks

upgrade from DNN 4 to 9 is a large step, you should clone the instance and try on a copy.
there are a few modules, which are known having issue for several upgrade versions, e.g. XML/XSL module and Links module.
Please check module compatibility on the module release site (modules are no longer bundled with DNN) - same applies to all 3rd party modules.
I always start by uninstalling all modules not in use.

If I were doing this, I'd work to upgrade to the 9.2.1 version of DNN Community. When that is done, I'd do the move to Evoq.

Still, as Sebastian indicates, you're probably in store for some challenges.

As an alternative, just redevelop the site in Evoq. Whether or not that makes sense depends on the size of the site.

just out of curiosity: what is your reason to use Evoq?

Thanks Sebastian and Joseph for your input.

The reason we are looking at Evoq is one (of many) of the contributing factors to being still on DNN 4 is not being able to leverage enough vendor support.

At least this way the support may (hopefully) ensure we maintain the site to a better degree.

Site is over 2500 pages, it would be very difficult to re-develop from scratch due to a multitude of contributing business units.

Also reverse psychology, When you pay for something you automatically assign it a value that is worth maintaining. When it is free. it has no value therefore not worth maintaining.
