Is there a way to manually upgrade DNN by dropping webfiles files and running scripts/data providers without the use of the install wizard in the browser?

Scott,

Sure, there is, but why do you want to do this?

Happy DNNing!

Hi Michael,

We have a very simple windows forms application that we use to apply our own changes and upgrades to our DNN sites. It simply copies our upgraded website files over the selected website, applies any web.config changes and runs any scripts against the connection string found in the web.config at a single click of a button.

We are attempting to include the DNN upgrade process into the equation without the need to browse to the install/upgrade aspx pages after and wondering if there is a way of just dropping files and running a script in the same way so that it can be developed into our existing process.

Our other option is to force open a browser from the application to the install page after its copied the files over but obviously this is not as slick as if the tool we've developed could do it all and just show a log of how it's done.

Really interested to hear more on the manual way you allude to.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,

Scott

I have a working process for installing an updated module based purely on requesting the install URL from my script.

Not tried it for a full upgrade, but I see no obvious reason it would not work if you just requested the upgradewizard url from a script.

Best wishes,

Hi Richard,

Would this still not require human interaction to enter host login details and navigate through the upgrade wizard?

Really looking to see if there is a way to bypass the wizard all together and manually perform the job that it does ourselves. I may be mistaken but I'm thinking that all the wizard does is copy over updated web files and run scripts which we could automate if we had a definite list of files to copy and scripts to run to complete the process.

Thanks,
Scott
