I manage a number of sites for my clients and they are all use DNN8 with the exception of one which is DNN9.  I REALLY DON'T LIKE DNN9 and would like to get that one site switched to DNN8.  The site was originally created in DNN9 so it isn't a matter of going back to an older version.  Is this possible?  If so, how do I do it?

Hi,

there is no way to downgrade. All you can do is to rebuild the site on DNN8 from scratch.

But in my eyes the problem is somewhere else. Let me ask you (and this question is not saying whether I like it or not): Why don't you like DNN9? I know, there are many changes, as well in the administration interface as some modules that were working on DNN8 might break. That means you have to upgrade extensions as well when upgrading from DNN8 to DNN9, and this could produce costs - for upgrades of 3rd party modules, for your time etc. etc.

But on the other hand: DNN8 will not be maintained anymore, therefore you will run into security issues sooner or later, or even into compatibility issues with newer Windows and/or SQL Server versions. The interface is a change like the change of the user interface from menus to ribbons from Office 2003 to Office 2007 - at the first glance you hate it, because you don't find anything, but when you got used to it, it is not so bad at all (even if the Persona Bar could be improved in many places, and I'm sure it will).

Happy DNNing!
Michael

DNN8 is much more user friendly.  I manage over 20 sites for my clients and they are all in DNN8 instead of this one.
