I have followed the guide at http://kemmis.info/blog/archive/2008/03/08/how-to-write-a-custom-dotnetnuke-schedulerclient-i.e.-a-scheduled.aspx.

It mentions that I need to compile my source into a dll file.  My source is located at App_Code\name\name.cs.  I had previously wrote something similar in dnn 4.9.5 a while ago and was able to run my code as a task without compiling it to a .dll and putting it in the bin folder, but it seems to be different in 5.2.3.  So I have two questions:

1. Can I call my scheduled task without compiling it to a dll like I have done in the past, and how would I do so when scheduling the task?

And if not,

2.  How would I go about compiling my source into a .dll and calling it when scheduling the task?

Also, if I can do either/or, and I'm just doing something retarded, what would be the advantages of compiling into a .dll?

Thanks,

-Riggs

Alright, well I figured it out.  You need to compile the scheduled task in its own project to a DLL.  I find it very sad that the community is so weak that it can not answer a simple question.  It almost seems as if the DNN community is very small and will probably be short lived because of lack of any support.

Hi Riggs,

Just wanted to let you know I've written schedulers in DNN before and I didn't have to compile them first.

My dev environment consists of the install version of DNN using Visual Studio 2008.

I've had it work both ways (i.e. In a seperate project and in the dnn project)

regards
