I have two modules, a results module and a search module.  The search module exists on every page, the results is only on one page.  If the user performs a search I want to display the results module if it is not already loaded, but if it is loaded use a postback to refresh the results.

How can I cause a postback to the results module when the user clicks a button on the search module.  Because they are on the same page, I can see the code behind executing, but the results module doesn't refresh.

Any help would be great.

I would recommend looking into Intermodule Communication. There are a few pages in Mitchel Seller's book

Basically you setup a sender and listener for every module, and you have the listener look to see if you need to manage items coming from various senders.

Thanks Chris.  I was able to get the results I am looking for by adding a javascript ajaxrequest from the first module and adding the second module's control as the target.

I'm still pondering the pros and cons of having one module's postback causing all other page modules codebehind to fire without the appropriate refresh.

Thanks again.

Paul,

You can see an example of Intermodule Communication being used here.  There are some limitations, specifically, IMC cannot be used with AJAX as the entire page needs to be update so all modules have a chance to process the IMC message.

Hope this helps
Paul.
