Tomjp,

Yes you can use DotNetnuke with SQL Server.  However, not sure what specifically you want.

If you want to be able to display data from another SQL Server instance (other than the one containing DotNetnuke itself) then there are several modules available -- specifically the Reports module supplied with DotNetNuke, SGSV (SQLGridSelectedView)  from www.tressleworks.ca and SQLView from www.dnnstuff.com .  The Reports module must be installed via the Host/Extension

If you just want to use SQL Server as the base for DotNetNuke itself then you need to create an empty database in the SQL Server instance and reference the server  and empty database within the Install Wizard.  You will also need to provide the appropriate access information.

Hope this helps
Paul.

thanks Paul,

I have already created an empty database during the installation. my actual need is , for example: i have a login page, that containing the username and
password filed, username and password are stored in the datebase(same database which is created during the installation), when I click the login
button I have to validate the username and password from the databse. How can I do this using dotnetnuke, can you help me, I am a beginner in dotnetnuke.

regards,
tomjp

Is it possible to use the DNN database as a feed to obtain the childpage's titles of a site?

Tomjp,

If you have not successfully performed the install of DotNetNuke, I would complete this task first.   DotNetNuke does provide it's own login page

During the install you were asked to provide a password for the Host and Admin user accounts.  Use one of the Host or Admin Usernames plus appropriate password.  Once signed in, you can go to the Admin/User Account to add more users.

I would recommend you watch some videos on www.DNNCreative.com and www.DNNHero.com to gain a basic understanding.  These videos are quite informative and can answer many questions.

If you are looking to validate user/password from an other database table, you have several options -- you can use several third party tools to load the users into the DotNetNuke User tables,  or you can create an authentication provider where you can access that other table.

Paul.
