Hello,

I am an intermediate ASP.NET developer and am interested in creating some custom modules. I have read several tutorials on setting up your development environment, how to get started in creating a a custom module...but I guess I have next level questions:

  1. I am using VS 2010 Express, sQL Server 2008 R2 Express, and the VS Starter kit....this is great as it creates a deployment package that you can install in DNN directly...not sure why Chris Hammond uses other templates and nANT, etc....which seems a lot more complicated, and you can use nANT with VS Express.
  2. How does one typically debug a custom module created from the VS Starter template? I thought about just adding a webform to the module project and adding the controls, then you can Run the project and debug...but I am having problems with VS asking to find certain AJAX code source (ModalPopupExtender.cs)...not sure why it is asking for this...when I deploy the same module and install in DNN, it works fine...must be something to do with my References or lack thereof?
  3. If you have multiple view controls, does that equate to separate project/module development/and DLL for each?
Any suggestions are appreciated.

Chad,

If you are doing module development, start here: http://www.adefwebserver.com/DotNetNu...  This site has helped many a Dotnetnuke programmer learn the ways of the force.  Personally, I would avoid using the templates until you understand what the templates are doing, this site will help you with that.

Hi
In website you are trying to deploy your module, you need to place ajaxControlToolkit.dll file inside bin folder.
Also check wheather AjaxControlToolkit dll file version is compatible with the environment or not.

Thanks
