Hi All,

This may be a real stupid question: I have upgraded PokerDIY.com to the last 5.x version of DNN and I noticed that any module that had Edit rights on them (e.g. where I had to show module actions to a user role) now also shows Settings.

This is a big issue for me as I had a lot of modules that used Edit ability to show actions (and it did not used to let them edit the settings (I don't think).

Was this a recent change or have I just been really slow to notice it? ;)

Thanks

Hey Rodney, hope all is well (besides this issue). The forum, as you know, uses a lot of module actions. Nothing changed from 4 through 5.6.x here that I can think of, but there were some changes in 6.

That aside, the settings module action's display is controlled based on the 'type' of control (in most cases, this is "Edit") and what you are describing is expected behavior. Because of this, you need to limit who has 'edit' permissions on any given module (to admin, content editors, etc., not typical users). Because of this, all controls that you want to associate a module action with need to have their type set as 'View' and then you would use your own security checks to limit this even further.

Just out of curiosity, what core version were you on before?

Rodney, there used to be an issue with edit module permissions in DNN 5.6.2, please make sure you are running DNN 5.6.3

Hmmm - I am on 5.6.2...   before I was on 5.2.2. It never used to work this way as far as I can remember ;)  Edit perms were not for settings. Maybe it's this bug that you mention - thanks guys.
