Hi there,

I am in need to create DotNetNuke user accounts from a windows application.

First, is there any existing module that does that?

If not, then I read a few example on using the DotNetNuke Services Framework and I should be able to create something custom for the task, however, I found no code example on how to implement authentification to that custom service.

What I would like is for the windows application to send a post to that custom service with an admin login and password as well as the new user information, but I am clueless on how to pass those parameters and checking if the login/password is valid.

Any advice on where to look for such information?

Thanks in advance

Hi Daniel
If you are able to post the signup information from the windows app, then you can do this in this way.
Built a custom page which will do the registration.
pick up the signup information from the url which is sent from the windows app as parameter.
There is dnn validateuser() to validate user and createuser() to create user.

Thanks,

Hmm, thanks, that is an approach I did'nt thing about, but that would work.

However there is a need for some other features and I'll still need a webservice for that, so I really need to resolve that authentication problem. I searched a bit more and found this: http://iweb.adefwebserver.com/

I'll give this a try, I think it would resolve my problem here...

It will definitely work. I had done this kind of work like user can register to dnn site from mobile by simply sending a message with required tokens.

Thanks,

I haven't managed to make iWeb work under DNN7 and I kind of found by trial and error how to pass parameters with the new DotNetNuke services framework.

The only ting left to figure out is how to use an admin authentication instead of the [RequireHost] parameter. I would prefer not to use a host account if not absolutely necessary and I think that you need to tie the service to a module to use any other type of DotNetNuke authentication. I might end up using separate credentials just for the webservice unless there is something like [RequireAdmin] or if I learn how to check if a certain login/password is valid and if it is tied to an admin account.
