Hi,

I currently have a DevExpress subscription and would like to use their controls in DNN. I have a few questions.

1) Is it possible to package the dlls so that that get included in the install zip file using Chris Hammonds templates?

2) Do you advise only using the built in DNN controls to aid UI conformity  or can DevExpress controls be made to look the same and if so how?

3) Are there any known problems using DevExpress controls with DNN?

4) Do you advise sticking with the standard DNN/Telerik controls?

Additionally will using DevExpress controls/other 3rd party controls prove tricky if hosting with, for example, PowerDNN?

1. yes you can add markup to a .dnn install file to include any .dll that you want installed in a sites /bin/ director.

2. as a rule hosting providers have no issues with component library files you install in your sites /bin/ folder

3. all sorts of different libraries of controls can be used with dnn - but the advantage of using the core dnn/telerik controls is that they are already skinned and designed to work with the DNN Form layout model.

4. you will as a rule only be able to distribute the runtime elements of the component librarys - most developers including telerik dont allow the design time components to be distributed - but that is not really an issue for the elements running on a live server.
