I am new to DNN. I have developed in CMS before, but it was different than this. Back then it was masterpages, and simple snipet of code allowed you to do content management on the page.

Is this environment just as easy. I would like to develop my pages using Visual Studio, I am just more comfortable with that. Also if I can how? Example would be I would like to create an about us page, on that page declare what is editable by the cms. With that said, all the css files that come with DNN, do I eliminate those from the default.aspx page and create my own styles for my page layout? This is just first glance but it seems I cant do that, I have to create a skin?

Any information is welcome, I am new to any sort of modern cms and would like to get to developing as soon as possible.

Thank you.

Pages are created and populated with content using the browser interface, no VS needed.
You need VS or Razor to create your custom modules, there are a couple of tutorials and templates around.

If you check the Blog and Video sections, you will find some useful tutorials. In particular, look for a long series of blog posts by Clint Patterson that describes development of a module (http://www.dnnsoftware.com/community-...).

Welcome to the DNN Community!

@Joe are you saying my blog series wasn't succinct? :-)

lol... yes my blog series will show you more about module development. However, for more information on skinning you should check out the Skinning page in the DNN Wiki. Also check out the videos page and look for the videos on skinning. The "Master page" concept in DNN is what you will hear referred to as a skin or theme. The .ascx files in the skin/theme package dictate the layout and the associated skin.css file will provide the styles for the theme. The layout is HTML/CSS/JS based so once you find the correct files you should be able to update the look and feel and layout very easily.

Hope this helps...
