I always implement ISearchable interface in my module. However, since DNN 7.1 ISearchable interface is obsolete and requires ModuleSearchBase   to be used.

My problem is, I have created a custom class with common controller methods, which are used by all the controllers in my Modules. Since ModuleSearchBase is a class and not the Interface, I can't inherit from this class. If I inherit my base common controller class from ModuleSearchBase then I have to implement Search for all my controllers, that is nonsense :(

What is the alternative? Can't there be simply an Interface like IModuleSearchBase?

no, there isn't one - we choose to use an abstract base class as we need to periodically extend and enhance it and it was causing issues using an interface as they should be immutable
