Can someone help me please.

I'm looking to build a ,more complex search module for my DNN site. I want the search to have three dropdown list fields and then the search button itself (to look similar to the http://www.redletterdays.co.uk/Home search box under their main menu).

Can this be done on DNN? Is there an existing product out there, have had a look on Snowcovered but not seen anything, and finally if it can be built, can I integrate it with the existing DNN search results page, or will I have to play with that as well?

Thanks in advance forany help.

Rob

A selection based search is useful in modules like store or FnL, but IMHO not for the whole site. Currently the site search index does not support categories.

Thanks for the response,

Unfortunately my site is a gift store, so this functionality would prove extremely useful. Would you be able to offer any alternative solutions, ie is there anything at all i can do or buy that would provide something like this functionality? Just that using the existing DNN search will put me at a competitive disadvantage for sure.

Thanks

Hi,

you may have a look at our Lucene powered DNN module.

Amongst other things it lets you:

  • augment native dnn category-less indexing by providing a dedicated field-aware provider for any installed module.
  • Customize the searching interface through a concept similar to dnn skins: it should not be hard to design your interface with the dedicated drop down lists.

There is a trial version available for download.

Cheers,
