Hi all,

I've been working with DotNetNuke for the past few days to make myself more confortable with the whole system and I think it's time to move on with some modules. I like most of the modules in DNN, but I'd like to make some modifications to some of them in order to suite my needs and I don't want to start from scratch...

For example I really like the 'Announcements' module but I'd like to create a replica of it and then apply my modifications.

So I'd like to ask if there is an easy way to achieve such kind of duplication.

Thanks for your help,
John

John,

Most, if not all, core modules have moved there source to Codeplex.  In the case of the DNN Announcement module you can find the most recent source on codeplex here.  Once downloaded, you are free to change the module.  I would rename the module so you can have both on your site, but this is not a requirement (although highly recommended).

Note: the source for the DNN Annoucements is a zip file inside the install zip.

Hope this helps
Paul

Hi Paul,

saying 'this is not a requirement' I assume that you are reffering to DNN's internal naming process of each installed module. So even if I have 2 modules with the same name, DNN is smart enough to distinguish them. That's fair enough...

My question is which parts of the unzipped files do I have to mod in order to create a brand new 'Announcements2' module (by the way with the same database structure). I'm pretty sure that I have to change the manifest file and what else?

Of course, after modding the required files, I have to re-zip all these and then proceed to the 'New Extension Installation Wizard' step.

Thanks a lot for your time,
John
