We just updated to version 5.5. A previous developer created some custom logic around the User.ascx file (DNN Core) and I wanted to convert this over to a DesktopModule.

After reviewing some other options like just creating a custom registration page or utilizing the DataSprings module, I think the best route is to create a new custom desktop module. We have a bunch of secondary and third database checks going on to update, delete, select data for validations and security so this seems like the best route.

My intention was to take the code from User.ascx and User.vb and just drop that in a new DesktopModule but it's never that easy is it. Can someone refer me or offer instructions on doing this? How do I create a new custom Extension from the original DNN registration source code? I do not need a new provider, I just need to do some additional database queries on registration.

thanks for your time in advance.
