Hi,
I have created a new module that build OK in visual studio. However, when I add the module to a DNN page, I have the following error:

"A critical error has occurred.
Object reference not set to an instance of an object."

I do not know where to look for the cause of the issue since VS does not show any error.

Any idea ?
Thanks
JM

I would attempt to start up your project in Debug mode to try to tack down the error. Are you using a WAP module, meaning Web Application Project, like my VS templates use, or another development approach? Check this blog out for how to use the Module Dev templates I recently released.

In addition to debugging in Visual Studio (or whatever development environment you are using), I would look at the Admin --> Event Viewer (preferably when logged in as host  user rather than admin) for related error messages that might have been logged. The stack trace is of particular benefit and can often help narrow down the search to a particular class or method.

Thanks to both of you.

Chris, when I run VS in debug mode, it shows the install screen aga in (as if I wanted to install DNN) and if I run the install process, it stops at the Database Script writing phase. Not sure why...

I will use the event viewer first.

Appreciate your help.

All,
I have found out that the issue comes the Ajax Script Manager that I have put on my view.ascx. I need it to use Ajax CascadingDropDown extender.
Is there any incompatibility betwenn DNN and the Script Manager ?
Thanks
JM
