Check out some of the ASP.Net focused websites such as http://www.asp.net for tutorials, code samples and so forth. A Google search for "GridView sorting" will bring up 100's of hits. For the most part, learning to develop modules for DotNetNuke involves about 60% of learning the .Net framework, 30% of learning ASP.Net and only 10% of learning the DotNetNuke API.

You might also want to download the source code package for my DotNetNuke Forge/Codeplex project ContentDeJour. One of its features (for the edit control) is a GridView which implements a somewhat unique way of sorting on multiple columns and displaying an up/down triangle and sort-level indicatori n each column header that is participating in the sort .

An alternative - depending on your situation - client side sorting -  take a look at tablesorter (see http://tablesorter.com/docs/ )  This is a JQuery extension that will sort any table on a web page.  Very use full -- but it only sorts the data on the page.

Another alternative is to look a some of the grid display modules -- SQLGrid / SQLGrid Pro form DNNStuff  or SQLGridSelectedView from Tressleworks - both provide Grid sorting and other features

Hope this helps
