I am developing like this: Using files DataProvider.vb and SqlDataProvider.vb

using these files and architecture from the module plugin provided by dotnetnuke in Visual Studio dotnet 2010. But this seems to me like overworking. Why is there 2 files for this and I have to write the methods in both htese files to make things work. Do you guys still develop like this?

 I feel you can do the same work without these double files DataProvider.vb and SqlDataProvider.vb I would like to use only one of them. Any of you doing so and why or why not?

code for creating provider on the fly inside the DataProvider.vb

Private Shared Sub CreateProvider()
            objProvider = CType(Framework.Reflection.CreateObject("data", "Companyname.Modules.Modulname", ""), DataProvider)
        End Sub

The idea was to abstract the data layer from the database. So in theory, you could support another database other than MS SQL Server. A good idea that was not really practical. This goes back to the earliest days of DNN and would have been a best practice at the time. Obviously, times have changed and there are new methods of data handling. You are not bound to using that model.
