Hello,

I´ve just started developing modules for Dotnetnuke.
Are there any ways to style the output besides in the view control? Can I have multiple view-controls and let the user choose which viewcontrol he wants? Some kind of templating for my module.

For example lets say I have a Articlemodule. I want to be able to present output from my module in 3 different ways. 1 column list, 2 column list and bulleted list etc etc. There would be nice if the user could choose from 3 different templates in the settings of the module. Is this possible?

Sedond question is, how about tokens in my module. Would it be possible for the user to enter a custom token in the output. As in the Eventmodule? Example if the user would enter [CUSTOMTOKEN:ArticleBody]

Hello,

Module development in DNN basically follows the same rules of normal development in ASP.NET. So, you do things in largely the same way you would with ASP.NET. However, instead of inheriting System.Web.UI.UserControl, you just inherit DotNetNuke.Entities.Modules.PortalModuleBase.

When you do that, you have access to module settings that are common across the module - meaning you can read/set them in your settings control, and also read them (through Settings("SettingName") in your view control.

So, if you want to have different layouts, you can use any .NET way of getting that you like - such as a multiview, dynamic controls, etc. Because you can access the setting easily, you can select the view style when your view control is loaded.

Hope this helps,

Mike
