Hi,

We have a custom registration module installed on a portal that was written by someone else.  We want to add the ability to raise a Javascript alert when the user clicks the Submit button.  However, the site owner wants to control or change the message text of the alert.  Can this be done via a module setting?  If so, how would I approach this?

Thanks,

Sid

There are lots of different ways to do this - the easiest is to store the message in localized text (e.g. the resx file) and use that (http://dnncontest.codeplex.com/Source... is an example of retrieving the localized value and using it in javascript, in this case the jquery panels control, but it could have used custom javascript or the alert/confirm plugins easily http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/W... ).Doing it this way means that the user can use admin->languages to edit it.

However it's often better to support administration within the module i.e Create a textbox in your settings file to store and retrieve and either store it as a ModuleSetting (will apply same value across all instances of the module) or a TabModuleSetting (each module on a page can have it's own unique text) - see http://dnncontest.codeplex.com/Source... for an example of storing values both ways -you can inject it again using the server <% %> notation within your javascript
