I'm trying to get the UserInfo by UserID (not necessarily the current user).

I try this basic code, but I get an Exception: "Object reference is not set to an instance of the object"

//  0 is the correct portalID and 5 is a valid userID; I just used these values to test

UserInfo siteUser = new siteUser();
UserController uc = new UserController();
siteUser = uc.GetUser(0, 5);

Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?

Let me add something to this.

This is being called from an external web service and I added the DotNetNuke.dll as a reference (not sure if this will work).

I could write my own stored procedure if needed, but was wondering if I can take advantage of the framework.

it wont work -either your external webservice does not have a httpcontext or else (more likely) it's web.config does not have the entries that dotnetnuke reads to set up it's context - instead most people would use something such as iweb (http://iweb.codeplex.com/) to allow external callers (note: a future version of dotnetnuke will have a services framework to help with this)
