I was wanting and event to happen after a few seconds when a button was clicked and did some other stuff. So, I used Timers.Timer, but when the timer even was called the PortalId was suddenly null and caused a crash when I tried to use it. Why is it becoming null?

I would assume that when your timer event happens, the original request is long gone.

What are you trying to achieve?

I was needing it to grab information from the server and update what was displayed on the page. Basically user clicks a button, I give them a message of what they did was successful and then after a few seconds I change what's displayed on the page.

I think that breaks the standard model of a web site. The server can only reply to a request from the browser. So:
- Basically user clicks a button,
- I give them a message of what they did was successful
That's one request/response

- and then after a few seconds I change what's displayed on the page.
It's too late now. You already replied.

Best wishes,

So, what alternatives should I look at?
