I want to add my own page to a core module CoreMessaging

I thought I can go to Host > extenstions > edit Messaging Center >

either add a new message definition and/or message control
that afterwards I can go to Admin > extensions > edit Messaging Center >
then I would have an option to pick which definition to use???
there is no choice there.

basically we want to not change the other portals but just 1 portal we want to make some changes to this module.

or will I have to create a full copy of this module and just use my copy on our profile page??

which way is best way to do?

i found out our messaging module is in a tabs aggregator so for some unknown reason while in that it doesn't show the admin icon to edit it.

I move it out and I do get the editing icon. I am able to add my control view2.ascx but I see no way to tell just my portal to use view2 and the rest of the portals to use the default view.ascx.

please give advice on a proper way to edit this just for my portal.

I am thinking I will have to just put in code to say if myportal then do my custom code.
