All,

I'm using the new DAL2 template from Chris and trying to find the best approach to a common set of modules I develop on a regular basis.

I have to build modules to display all records in a repeater control with a link to the full details of that record. Normally I'd have one page and module for each function (display records and view/edit record details).

The template appears to use the itemID and moduleID to look up records but the moduleID will obviously be different if I keep these 2 functions separate in their own module and I won't know the moduleID of the first module to hard code it (not that I would anyway).

What's the best approach in this case? Should I start developing both functions in the same module so that it knows the moduleID? If not, what's the best way to use this template but still know what moduleID to use to look up the record details. I'm open to any suggestions to make module development as easy as possible.

Thanks,
Mark

Hi
you can get the module id by using the module's friendly name.
Create a modulecontroller object and use the GetModulesByDefinition method by providing the portal id and module's friendly name. Assign it to ModuleInfo object and get the moduleid from there.
Avoid using the module id directly by hard coding. This may change later.

Thanks,
