I am trying to walk through developing my first module but can't get the project set up.  I downloaded and installed the ones available here: http://christoctemplate.codeplex.com/ and they are installed.

But they are not available in Visual Studio 2015 Express for Web

when I am trying to set up my project to develop a module.

I cannot find them using the search feature

and if I try to reinstall them, it says they are already installed.

I have taken a week's leave to get this proof of concept together for our club's board but this is stopping me in my tracks.  I have a user control over on the site that outputs the listing I need to output, so that work is done, but I need to turn it into a module.  Pretty much stuck at this point.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Pure guesswork...maybe the Express versions don't support custom templates.

I suggest abandoning VS Express for Web and try the Community Edition.

As it says on the MS download page "Visual Studio Community has all the features of Express and more, and is still free for individual developers,
open source projects, academic research, education, and small professional teams."

Best wishes,

Bingo.  I had both installed but just never swapped out the shortcut.  There it is!  Thanks.

Now, I was able to bang out a couple of sample modules under DNN7.  Now that I need to do it for real, we are at DNN8 and trying to set up a project and it is blowing up.  I am getting a boatload of these when I build it:

The type or namespace name 'DotNetNuke' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)

Any ideas?  I have spent a good two days running to ground issues with having SQL 2012 and 2016 on the same server, porting everything to 2016, trying to get 8.0.3 to install (I gave up and went to 8.0.0), etc.  Now this.  I am really, really tired of this.  I regret taking this task on.  Ugh.

Thanks for any ideas you can offer.

most likely, you missed adding a reference to correct version of DotNetNuke.dll
