I have DNN 5.4.4 Profesional Edition installed (No, Not the trial version). I want to either replace the default menu control with my own menu control (ASP.Net menu contol) OR plugin my own Menu population logic and use the DNN's existing menu control to display the menu items.
I think the default menu control populates on the basis of dnn_tabs and some other tables. I want to leave the core stored procedures untouched.

I have my custom tables that stores the menu hierarchy. Based on these tables, I wish to build and display the menu on my dnn site.
Can I accomplish this by creating a custom navigation provider OR do I need to build a custom module?

Please guide towards relevant resources.

Thanks
