I'd like to build a custom Authentication extension that calls a web service with the email/password and validates the user.. and so a couple of questions.

 1. Do I store off that user in DNN?

2. How are Host and Admin Logins handles.. look for those first? and then check the web service for a valid login?

3. How is the user maintained for the session - roles, etc..

 4. What is the different between an Authentication system and a Membership provider?

 Thanks,

 Jay
