I have just installed a fresh version of DNN 4.3.4, downloaded from here, and I do not get this problem. I am able to edit the link without issue. This was using the standard "Install" version of 4.3.4. So to gather more information about this, I would like the following:

  • What version of DotNetNuke are you using?
  • Is it the Source or Install version?
  • Did you upgrade from a previous version or was it a clean install?
  • Are you using any localization on the site?
  • Are you using a custom skin?
  • What 3rd party modules do you have installed?

I will try to replicate the conditions as close as I can.

Hi Alec

In response to your questions my scenario is as follows:

v 4.3.4

Install version

Upgraded from v4.3.3 install

No Localisation

Custom Skin

No 3rd Party modules.

I also did an install of 4.3.4 using the starter kit and it works fine. I then did a binary compare of the bin directories of the working/vs not working dnn sites and they are identical.

Regards

Colm

Colm,
This one really has be stumped. I have tried it using source and install versions of 3.3.2 and 3.3.3 as well as trying source and install versions of 4.0.3, 4.3.3, and 4.3.4. I even tried the upgrade from 4.0.3 to 4.3.3 and from 4.0.3 to 4.3.4 without a problem in any of the scenarios. I do believe something is going on, but without being able to duplicate it, I cannot fix it. Can you send me the error log from the failures? Maybe I can back track it from there. Well I am sure we are bound to get to the bottom of this as soon as the right details show themselves.

I am some information that might help isolate this problem.

Installing DNN 4.3.4 on sql express does not have this problem.

I installed to an sql server 2000 database and it did have the problem. I then installed sp4 on the 2000 db and the problem remained.

Regardsa Colm.

Colm,
i will look into it further with this information. What is weird is that I have tried all versions of SQL in our environment (2000 and 2005) but have not tried SQL Express. So far none have failed as they all use the same SQL Script to make the tables, sprocs, etc. I am actually testing the newest versions for work right now and will test them all again. Here is the procedure I will follow:

  • Create a New SQL Database (deleting old one if needed) Using SQL 2000 for Install Only and 2005 for Full Source
  • Once logged in, delete the default links module from the home page.
  • Add new links to Home page
  • Create new Link
  • Edit new link
  • Rinse and Repeat

I will post the results once I get done.
