I am also receiving the 'Edit links is currently unavailable' message, but based on a different error, it would seem, than others:

Should I follow the advice in the blog or is that irrelevant to this issue?

   sorry for not responding sooner to this for you. I think following the advice of the blog post should help fix this, but nonetheless I would like to ask a few questions:
  1. What version of DNN are you using?
  2. Is this the default installation of the links module as it came with the DNN package?
If the blog post does not help you with this, please let me know and answer the above questions. We will see if we can't get the issue sorted out quickly.
