I am trying to use the news feed module to read "http://health.yahoo.com/news/rss/health", but I get the standard error "Could Not Connect To http://health.yahoo.com/news/rss/health. You Should Verify The Source Address Is Valid And That Your Hosting Provider Has Configured Their Proxy Server Settings Correctly."

We have made sure that out server running dnn can feach the site. I have also setup a iframe module on the same page as the news module. In the iframe I am loading the same url just fine. So it loooks like DNN can get the url.

Does anyone know what might be happening?

Thanks, Sean

I'm having the same problem.  I have news feeds on other DNN installations with no problem. This is only happening on my 4.5.1 and 4.5.3 installations and not 4.4.1.

This is the feed that works in my 4.4.1 installation: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/rss/nba/news

All of my DNN installations are with the same hosting provider.  I've already contacted them and they say theyv'e done nothing to prevent the connection.

seand03,

Who is your hosting provider?  Mine is GoDaddy.  (Please, no GoDaddy bashers, OK?)

I should also add that I did the same experiment with I-Frame and got the same results.  But considering how it looks, this is not an option... particularly when the news feed module looks and works fine in my older installations of DNN at GoDaddy.

You don't mention which version of DNN you are using, so there may be some twists I have not seen in your issue.  I just downloaded and installed DNN v04.05.05, added a NewsFeeds (RSS) module, and used your link as the news source.  It comes up fine, with the excpetion of some expected presentation issues in the feed itself.  The Yahoo feeds include HTML, which the default xsl translation does not convert.  Otherwise, I had no issue with the feed and did not get the error.

Now, I've seen this type of thing happen due to some machine setup issues with Code Access Security (CAS), but don't know if that's the source of your issue or not.  I'm testing through a pretty strict environment, no proxy, but the security of the outgoing web requests, and incoming results are not under my control, as it's handled by our network security group.  So, don't really know if you are experiencing issues due to machine security, site security, or just what.  Let us know what kind of environment you are using, and someone with a similar setup may be able to zero in on a possible solution.

FYI - I've got WinXP Pro, running SQL Server 2005.  The installation of DNN was setup per default, with the only changes made to the web.config being the connection strings.

See the above for my environment setup.  I'm using DNN v04.05.05, and am having no issue with the feed source you mention (espn...).  I just use the default setup, put your link into the source, and it comes up w/o issue.  Sorry, can't be of more help.  If you've got a test machine that you can load DNN v04.05.05 and try, we may be able to zoom in on the issue with your older version setups.
